We’ve been saying for awhile that Google Search would undergo considerable change, particularly given its roll out of its Google + social application. We forecasted that Google had more than a passing interest in the exponential growth of social media platforms and if it’s Google + got traction, would dramatically change the way people find your marketing law firms or accounting firm. Well it’s now happened and it is likely that there is more to come.
So what does all this mean to your law or accounting firm. Well, given that this development only occurred yesterday, what we know is that when two people are searching for a specific term, both users will not be in receipt of the same search results. Those results will be influenced considerably by their social media profiles, particularly Google + and Youtube (owned by Google). In other words, metaphorically speaking, it’s like doing a search by firstly asking all your connections what they know about “property settlements.”
What should your firm do about it? Firstly, acknowledge that “online” if it isn’t already, will have a major impact upon client referral and secondly, this space is no longer one-dimensional. A well-optimised website is a great start, but the traffic to that site will come increasingly from social media profiles. Your firm, if its serious about online positioning has to become multi-dimensional with its strategy and think about how you can integrate Google + immediately into that strategy.
Here’s the latest reports from CNN and Google’s Press Release on this major change. The CNN Report is here
